ABOUT
Originally known as the Northeast Harbor Fire Company, NEHA has been providing emergency medical care since 1938. During a transition to a municipal-based fire-service in 2001, the EMS component separated and became IRS recognized as a 501(c)3 organization. NEHA is governed by an elected Board of Directors and staffed by a volunteer membership.
NEHA maintains Maine State EMS licensure at the Advanced Life Support level. Two paramedic-level ambulances are stationed in Northeast Harbor at the Mount Desert Public Safety building. NEHA regularly interfaces with partner organizations:
NEHA's staff is a combination of volunteers on-call and per-diem providers. EMS providers are licensed as EMTs, Advanced EMTs, Paramedics, and Community Paramedics. Membership is open to all interested individuals, regardless of EMS training or licensing. NEHA provides all required education.
Community outreach includes regular American Red Cross blood drives, health & safety screenings, CPR classes, and educational presentations. Each August, NEHA sponsors a 5-mile road race & family fun walk to as service-fundraising.
