Service Background & Mission Statement

The Northeast Harbor Ambulance Service Inc., originally known as The Northeast Harbor Fire Co. Inc. has been providing emergency medical care to the residents and visitors of the Town of Mount Desert and surrounding areas since 1938.

Geographically, our coverage area in The Town of Mt. Desert includes the villages of Northeast Harbor; Seal Harbor, Somesville, Hall Quarry, and Pretty Marsh. Licensed by Maine State EMS, in the 2001, the Service became an IRS recognized separate Non-Profit 501(c)3 organization governed by an elected Board of Directors. We enjoy a positive and productive relationship with all who come to our island.

Our EMS personnel consist of volunteer pay-per-call Maine licensed Emergency Medical Technicians and trained volunteer drivers. We staff two state-of-the-art Advanced Life Support level ambulances available 24 hours a day out of our Northeast Harbor station.

MISSION STATEMENT:

The purpose of the Service is to provide emergency medical care and ambulance transport to the residents and visitors of the Town of Mount Desert, Maine and additional geographic areas covered by mutual aid agreements.

The Service operates within the limits set forth by the State of Maine Emergency Medical Services and its regional (Atlantic Partners EMS) representatives.
