THE NORTHEAST HARBOR AMBULANCE SERVICE, INC.
"Proudly Serving the Town of Mt. Desert Since 1938"
NEWS: Northeast Harbor Ambulance joins Statewide CPAP Pilot Project - June 25, 2007.
Along with one other Island EMS service, NEH Ambulance becomes only the 2nd. pre-hospital provider in the MDI area to offer CPAP respiratory therapy to patients through a trial pilot program established by Maine EMS.
After January 2008, CPAP will most likely be included in the EMS Protocols for EMT-Intermediates and Paramedics as an additional therapy for certain types of acute respitatory distress such as Acute Pulmonary Edema. However, for the remainder of 2007, this care will be limited to only Paramedics with Services participating in the Project. They will be permitted to administer the treatment via strict guidelines and only with authorization from Medical Control.
Paramedics Basil Mahaney & Jim Wilmerding, Crew Chief, have completed the necessary training and the Service has purchased the equipment and stocked the ambulance.
We are excited to have the opportunity to participate in this valuable study and have the availability to continue to offer the highest quality care to our patients.
